Ocean Mist Artichokes and Fiber: Get the Facts |

The USDA and the Department of Health and Human Services’ Dietary Guidelines recommend men
consume 30 to 38 grams per day and women consume 21 to 25 grams per day of dietary fiber. However,
most Americans consume only about half this is amount, according to the American Dietetic Association.
The solution is simple: eat Artichokes. One medium Artichoke, which contains 10 grams of dietary fiber,
provides half the daily requirement of fiber.

When the guidelines were being developed, the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee noted seven key
nutrients that are typically lacking in our diet — one of which is fiber. Artichokes are
a delicious way to get more fiber in our diet. In fact, one
medium Artichoke is an “excellent source” (providing 10 grams) of dietary
fiber, meaning — according to the Food and Drug Administration — Artichokes
provide 20 percent or more of the Daily Value of fiber. Daily Value is how much of a nutrient is needed
each day (based on a 2,000 calorie reference diet).
