Ocean Mist Farms Offers Marc's Shoppers a Holiday Sweepstakes
Shoppers can win $1,000 just in time for the holidays
CASTROVILLE, Calif. – ( Nov. 28 2012) – Ocean Mist Farms, the largest grower of fresh artichokes in the country, is working with Ohio-based regional retailer, Marc’s to offer shoppers a $1,000 sweepstakes this holiday season.
From Dec. 5 to 12, shoppers are encouraged to buy any Ocean Mist Farms produce items at all Marc’s stores, take a picture of the receipt, and email it to marcsoceanmist.com. One random picture will be selected to receive a $1,000 Marc’s gift card.
Ocean Mist Farms grows and supplies multiple fresh vegetables to Marc’s stores including the company’s signature jumbo artichokes along with celery, Romaine and Iceberg lettuce, Brussels sprouts, parsley, and cilantro.
“This sweepstakes rewards shoppers for buying fresh vegetables that are good for them,” said Kori Tuggle, Ocean Mist Farms director of marketing and business development. “We’re excited to work with Marc’s to educate shoppers about the benefits of eating a diet filled with fresh vegetables, especially during the holidays.”

Company to launch microwavable Brussels sprouts
CASTROVILLE, Calif. – (Oct. 2 2012) – Ocean Mist Farms is leveraging the timing of this years PMA Fresh Summit in Anaheim to emphasize its ability to work with retailers on holiday promotion planning.
“The date of Fresh Summit end of October — is when our retail customers are planning their holiday ads and promotions,” said Kori Tuggle, director of marketing and business development. “Most of the items used for holiday promotions include our cooking vegetables such as celery, broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts.”
“Brussels sprouts are the fastest growing item in the cooking vegetable category,” Tuggle said. Ocean Mist Farms started growing the vegetable in 1924 and today is a major supplier to the retail channel.

At PMA Fresh Summit Ocean Mist Farms will launch new Brussels sprouts packaging with a 1-pound microwavable zip lock bag and a 2-pound cello club pack.
The microwavable Brussels sprout bag is an extension of the company’s microwavable-artichoke line that gives the consumer the option to open the bag and season the vegetables before cooking.
“Brussels sprouts were an overwhelming hot commodity with retailers last year. Based on data demand is still growing,” Tuggle said.
Chef Tony Baker of Montrio Bistro in Monterey, Calif. created a menu that will feature Brussels sprouts in the Ocean Mist Farms’ booth #4138 during the show.
On Saturday, the chef will serve roasted Brussels sprouts with double smoked bacon and white balsamic shallot vinaigrette in addition to “arti burgers” with Chipotle lime sauce.
On Sunday, the menu will replicate a holiday meal using Ocean Mist Farms cooking vegetables. Chef Baker will feature honey-baked ham with Ocean Mist Farms veggie stuffing, garlic cauliflower mash, and cranberry fennel sauce garnish.
“At PMA we want to demonstrate the key holiday ingredients that we grow — and will be top of mind with consumers directly after the Fresh Summit — and that we are a resource for holiday planning by providing recipes, social media content, point of sale, and more to our retail customers,” Tuggle said.
Although the company grows more than 30 vegetables, Ocean Mist Farms is the largest grower of fresh artichokes in North America. To underscore that message, Ocean Mist Farms’ mascot, Arti the artichoke, will participate in the 5K Race for Talent for the PMA Fit Foundation fundraiser on Friday morning.

CASTROVILLE, Calif. – July 25, 2012 – For the ninth year in a row, Ocean Mist Farms was the top fundraising team in the North County Relay for Life.
Some 58 members of the Ocean Mist Farms family raised money and walked on Saturday, July 21 at the Andy Ausonio Castroville library.
“We support the Relay for Life because we believe it is important to build awareness and raise funds for cancer research locally,” said Kori Tuggle, director of marketing and business development.
The company team raised more than $21,000 through donation and pledges.

Chef Tony Baker to participate in second annual live chef demo
CASTROVILLE, Calif. – (July 2, 2012) – Ocean Mist Farms will host an artichoke field tour as part of PMA’s Fresh Produce Academy at the annual foodservice conference in Monterey, Calif.
The company-hosted tour on Friday, July 20, includes a visit to a beach-side artichoke field, company headquarters and a cooling facility, and a cooking demonstration by Chef Tony Baker of Montrio Bistro, Monterey, Calif.
Chef Baker will also be featured on Saturday in the chef demo challenge where participating chefs compete to create healthy and flavorful kids’ menus; he will demonstrate the preparation of artichoke veggie burger with Chipotle lime mayo and arti-guac. Last year Baker won the chef demo challenge and his recipe was included in a recipe book produced after the conference.
New spring promotion generates more than 2,300 photo entries
CASTROVILLE, Calif. – (May 21, 2012) – Ocean Mist Farms spring promotion the Take Your Pic sweepstakes, engaged shoppers nationwide and increased membership in Ocean Mist Farms Artichokes Aficionados club.
The sweepstakes ran throughout the month of April. During that time, artichoke shoppers were invited to take pictures of fresh artichokes wherever they saw them on sale or in print ads and then visit Ocean Mist Farms mobile site, m.oceanmist.com, to upload the picture. One winning picture was selected each week to receive $2,000. Shoppers had to be members of the Artichoke Aficionados club to win.
There were more than 2,388 photos uploaded with four winning pictures submitted by shoppers at Publix, Walmart, and Kroger stores.
Ocean Mist Farms promoted the sweepstakes with email blasts to its more than 34,000 artichoke club members, retail display contests with SaveMart banners, in store signage, artichoke petal inserts, as well through its website, Facebook, and Twitter accounts; sweepstakes point of sale was also made available to all retail customers.
“The Take Your Pic sweepstakes was the first consumer- generated content sweepstakes that rewarded fresh produce shoppers for being our eyes and ears in the marketplace and for helping other shoppers find artichokes on sale in their region,” said Kori Tuggle, director of marketing and business development. “The volume of photo entries from around the country exceeded our expectations. We will continue to support the spring artichoke peak season with these types of consumer engagement promotions in the future.”

The residents of Castroville began celebrating the artichokes harvested in area fields with the first festival in 1959. National Steinbeck Center presents 8th annual awards
CASTROVILLE, Calif. - (May 11, 2012)- Joe Pezzini, chief operating officer Ocean Mist Farms, received the Valley of the World Ag Leader award from the National Steinbeck Center.
The award honors an individual whose work has broken new ground and/or who has added significantly to the industry while making a difference in the community in which they live.
Pezzini received the honor at the 9th Annual Valley of the World Awards Event, May 10 at Corral De Tierra Country Club in Salinas.

It’s now official: Ocean Mist Farms and Rouses Supermarkets built the world’s largest fresh artichoke display on Saturday, April 21, at the Rouses store at 4500 Tchoupitoulas Street in New Orleans.
The display was certified by the World Records Academy and will be included in the academys book for fresh largest artichoke display along with photos.
The Rouses team used 20,000 fresh green globe Ocean Mist Farms artichokes to build the display and an artichoke-filled ornament suspended above the display in the shape of New Orleans beloved symbol the Fleur-di-lis. The display took 20 hours to complete and was photographed and measured for certification.
‘Artichokes are a big part of our food culture here in New Orleans and we did a little investigating and learned there is no record-setting display for fresh vegetables,’ said Joe Watson, director of produce, Rouses Supermarkets.
The display was unveiled on Saturday, April 21, with a special appearance by “Arti” the artichoke and Dale Huss, vice president artichoke production, Ocean Mist Farms. In addition, Rouses showed shoppers how to clean and prepare an artichoke for cooking, and served “easy baked artichokes” with chipotle mayo.

Monterey County Business Council to honor six local contributors to the economy
CASTROVILLE, Calif. – (Jan. 27, 2012) – Ocean Mist Farms is being honored by the Monterey County Business Council for its contribution to agriculture in Monterey County.
Ocean Mist Farms is one of six organizations selected to receive the Economic Vitality Award at the councils annual awards ceremony, Feb. 4 in Monterey.
The Monterey County Business Council is an alliance of business executives and professionals providing collaborative leadership to help people from business, government, education, and the community work together on countywide issues reflecting a strong commitment to the environment, economic vitality, and quality of life.
