All About Purple Artichokes

Our proprietary purple artichoke variety was carefully developed with the same Gold Standard quality, taste, and eating experience artichoke aficionados have come to expect from Ocean Mist Farms. Unlike our traditional green artichokes which are grown year-round, our purple artichokes are a seasonal variety only available for a limited time in spring. Besides their tender, meaty leaves, and rich purple appearance, these gorgeous artichokes are more than just a pop of color on the plate. Keep reading to learn more!

Health Benefits

Purple artichokes have the same numerous health benefits as traditional green chokes. One medium artichoke has 6 grams of dietary fiber and 4 grams of protein, which is particularly unique for a vegetable. They are also loaded with pre and probiotics and one of the highest vegetable sources of antioxidants. If you’re looking for ingredients that are anti-inflammatory, gut-healthy, blood sugar balancing, and of course - delicious, make sure artichokes are on your next grocery list.

How to Cook

When considering how to cook our delicious purple artichokes, use the same 5 easy steps you'd use for  green artichokes:

  1. Rinse and clean: First, you’ll want to gently rinse and scrub the natural film off the artichoke with a soft brush, which will also remove bitterness.
  2. Cut the top and tail: With a sharp knife, cut off the artichoke top and the end of the tail. Pro tips: save the stems and cook right along with the artichoke and cut the tips off the petals for a restaurant-worthy feel.
  3. Rub with lemon: Rub the leaves with a fresh lemon to avoid browning.
  4. Spread petals: Gently spread out the petals to ensure even baking and distribution of seasonings.
  5. Add seasoning: Season your artichokes with your favorite flavors. Now, it’s ready to be cooked!
