Earth Day is Every Day

At Ocean Mist Farms, we remain motivated by our mission to provide customers with the best quality vegetables and uncompromising service. As the largest grower of fresh artichokes in the U.S., we have made great efforts to care for the land that we steward. Our sustainability practices are made up of 4 key features: carbon footprint, food waste, natural resources, and packaging and shipping containers. Each effort enhances our commitment to food safety, giving back to the community, and ultimately, providing a better tomorrow.

While growing delicious vegetables is our main focus, decreasing our carbon footprint is also a top priority for our company. We aim to save energy within our warehouse by making small changes that have a large impact. A few of our methods for reducing our carbon footprint include energy-efficient LED lighting and using fuel and energy-conserving equipment. We also frequently service our equipment to maximize its life and ensure its efficiency.

As farmers, we believe access to healthy foods is an essential part of life. One of the missions of our company is to alleviate world hunger and reduce food waste. While partnering with key organizations such as Ag Against Hunger, the California Association of Food Banks, and countless local businesses, Ocean Mist Farms has donated almost 12 million pounds of fresh produce to help in the fight against hunger.

Another effort in our sustainability practices is preserving our natural resources. Ocean Mist Farms maintains year-round water conservation through water recyclability and groundwater collection. We aim to protect not just the land we farm but all surrounding ecosystems by using approximately 2 billion gallons of recycled water per year and minimizing saltwater intrusion.

Our final method for achieving sustainability is our eco-friendly alternatives to product packaging and shipping. We utilize Reusable Plastic Containers (RPCs) for shipping our fresh vegetables to larger retail partners. We also use recyclable corrugated cartons made from recycled raw material when shipping to smaller retail chains.

Today, in addition to artichokes, Ocean Mist Farms grows 30 different and high-quality vegetables, which include our Ocean Mist Organic and Season & Steam lines. We work tirelessly toward our mission to provide customers with outstanding vegetables to nourish your families. Whether you’re roasting sheet pan vegetables or baking stuffed artichokes, rest assured your fresh vegetables were farmed with the utmost thought, care, and sustainable practices.
