Entertaining is a long-standing tradition in our family. There are few things more rewarding than inviting family and friends in and making them feel right at home. Something that has always been very important to me is serving my guests foods that they truly enjoy, and I do my best to tailor the menu to the company.

More and more, this means accommodating special diets, whether due to food allergies, sensitivities, or lifestyle preferences. We have had guests that are lactose intolerant, some that eat a vegan diet, and others that were halfway through their Whole30 but didn't want to pass up on a dinner party. On each of those occasions, this Creamy Dairy Free "Cheese" Sauce has come to the rescue!

One of my favorite bloggers, Chrissa from Physical Kitchness, curated this recipe specially for pairing with  Ocean Mist Farms Artichokes. Made with an unlikely combination of ingredients, this sauce feels so decadent that even the most loyal cheese lovers in my life don't miss the dairy.

Soaking and blending cashews gives the sauce a rich, thick base, while coconut milk adds the creamy consistency (without adding a coconut flavor), and the secret ingredient, nutritional yeast, gives it the savory, nutty cheese flavor. If you're not familiar with nutritional yeast, it's simply an inactive form of yeast typically used to make bread or beer and a great source of vitamins, minerals, protein, and fiber. This is the perfect recipe to experiment with this vegan and dairy-free staple.

In keeping with the allergen-friendly menu, Arti-chips make the perfect vessel to dip into this luscious sauce. Artichokes steam easily in the microwave and the fibrous leaves get nice and tender. This is another healthy, Whole30-approved option for friends who are trying to avoid gluten or grains.
