The Assistant Ranch Manager is responsible for managing the daily farming operations in conjunction with the Ranch Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities to include: Direct supervision of planting processes both direct seeded and transplanted. Involvement with labor crews as it pertains to weeding, thinning and transplanting
  • Help the Ranch Manager in the coordination of all processes related to planting. This includes seed procurement, trial work, weekly scheduling of plantings and ensuring all equipment related to planting is maintained and ready to use
  • Supervise the activities of all directly reporting to the Assistant Ranch Manager: mainly labor for planting, weeding, thinning and tractor drivers to maintain the highest quality standards and yields of all crops grown
  • Organize and schedule weekly workflow so that the farming operation runs smoothly and efficiently Plan and schedule the next weeks cultural operations, then effectively communicate this plan to employees
  • Maintain accurate, detailed records of all crops from ground prep to harvest yields
  • Help in the process of maintaining certifications with outside agencies
  • Ensure proper safety protocols are followed by all employees and monthly safety meetings are implemented and attended
  • Balance yield, quality, and cost per carton of all crops at the most competitive, optimum levels possible

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Production or other related field is preferred. PCA license is desirable
  • A minimum of (3) years of farming experience in production agriculture is preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Valid California driver license required
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors, customers, and peers
  • Must be a self-starter, work independently, and upon evaluation of all the pertinent facts be able to solve complex problems
  • Knowledge of the correct setup and use of all farming equipment utilized in all aspects of the farming operation
  • A strong work ethic, common sense, honesty, and integrity are required
  • Ability to work long hours Monday through Saturday and Sundays as needed
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors and peers
  • Superior organizational skills
