The Director of Harvesting is accountable for directing the overall management of all harvesting operations contracted with Ocean Mist Farms and the overall operational management of Ocean Mist Harvesting, LLC.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Establish a vision to plan, develop, organize, implement, and evaluate the harvesting functions and performance of Ocean Mist Farms and its affiliated entities.
  • Direct and lead Harvest Commodity Managers in day-to-day harvest operations, and long-term goal planning and achievement.
  • Active participation in the development and implementation of the organization's short and long-term strategic plans and programs.
  • Establish and build credibility for the harvest department by ensuring timely harvest of all commodities to Ocean Mist Farms quality standards.
  • Assure accurate budgeting and cost accounting of all cartons harvested by grower, commodity (variety), and venture.
  • Direct and support Harvest Commodity Managers in their communication and contact with growers, sales, and shippers regarding harvest and volume decisions, quality issues, and yield reports.
  • Provide strategic harvest operational vision and leadership on issues and decisions affecting the organization through active participation on the senior level management team.
  • Advise and provide recommendations to the COO on all aspects of the harvesting operation.
  • Establish and promote credibility throughout the organization as an effective developer and implementer of effective solutions to harvesting and operational opportunities and challenges.
  • Develop and/or enhance established harvesting operations by refining and implementing procedures and practices that will increase overall operational efficiency and effectiveness of the organization and its affiliated entities.
  • Be an advisor and provide recommendations, from the harvesting prospective, on contracts, acquisitions, or alliances into which the organization may enter.
  • Continual development and evaluation of the harvest operational structure and team members to ensure efficiency and improvement of the department as well as providing individuals with professional and personal growth opportunities.
  • Create/update Breakeven costs and floor costs for each pack style as necessary.
  • When necessary in oversupply situations facilitate the sale of excess product at the field level.
  • Oversee the monthly yield reporting.
  • Maintain and lead the Quality Steering Committee.
  • Maintain and promote a professional image that supports and promotes Ocean Mist Farms' customer satisfaction, public image, and strategic goals.
  • Be an advocate of Ocean Mist Farms by always striving to produce, harvest, and ship the highest quality and most desirable product at the lowest cost per unit.
  • Other duties as directed by the COO.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • BA or BS in a Crop/Field Science, Management, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in management with 10-15 years of progressive experience in an agricultural environment, with an emphasis on leading a team of individuals and/or diverse operations.
  • Strong analytical, development, leadership, and negotiating skills.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word, and other related software programs.
  • Sound interpersonal skills with the ability in maintaining effective working relationships with management, staff, and customers/vendors.
  • Strategic visionary with solid judgment and management abilities and a strong operational focus.
  • Continuing education in management, and related professional areas.
