FOOD SAFETY PROCESSING (PCQI) LEAD - OCEAN MIST FARMS, CASTROVILLE, CA

The Food Safety Processing Lead is in the company’s headquarters in Castroville, California. The position reports to and supports the Food Safety Manager. This position is responsible for oversight of food safety and NOP standards in the processing plant for: Spinach, Brussels Sprouts, Broccoli, and Artichokes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

  • Enforce the food safety programs for staff of 30 plus employees:
    1. Primus GMP GFS
    2. Preventive Controls Rule for FSMA
  • Oversee Quality Control team responsible for monitoring Critical Control Points;
  • Third party audit preparation;
  • Weekly GMP inspection;
  • Daily Pre-operation Inspection review;
  • PCQI Documentation review – Weekly;
  • Incident Reports/ Foreign Materia Log;
  • Environmental swabbing of Value Added and cold rooms;
  • Review incoming material on arrival and check certificates of analysis, lot numbers and quantities;
  • Maintain chemical and cleaning supply inventory list;
  • Act as liaison between sanitation team and upper management;
  • Participate in HACCP verification/validation activities;
  • Maintain SDS binder.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Deliver Samples to Laboratory in Salinas
  • Conduct food safety training sessions as needed (ie. Handwashing, Hygiene, Glass Policies)
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • 2 years of supervisory experience desirable
  • Knowledge of Preventive Controls, GMP’s, HACCP, and USDA/FDA guidelines as they relate to our operations.
  • Working knowledge of computers & software as utilized in the Food Safety environment: Windows operating system, Word, Excel and Access software.
  • Bilingual English-Spanish a definite plus.
  • Valid Driver’s License, Class C, be insurable and ability to operate a company vehicle is required.
