GENERAL MANAGER - OCEAN MIST FOODS, CASTROVILLE, CA

The General Manager will have direct oversight of the value-added segment, Ocean Mist Foods. This position will be chartered with setting strategy, allocating resources, developing managers, and overall building the division for success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct responsibility for Ocean Mist Foods strategy, P&L responsibility, expansion efforts, customer fulfilment, product development and supplier relations.
  • With input from the President/CEO and other senior leaders, prepare profit and loss estimations and budgets, using market demand, organizational goals and historical figures to achieve budgeted sales and profit growth.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders and management staff members in the development and formulation of long and short-range planning and objectives. This includes reviewing strategies and action plans to grow sales volume and profit levels of value-added category and operations.
  • Formulate and recommend manufacturing policies and programs that guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation.
  • Prepare strategies to provide support to all purchasing plans and ensure accuracy in inventory.
  • Establishes procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations to ensure that products conform to established customer and company quality standards.
  • Develop processes that will maximize stewardship, safety, quality and productivity.
  • Initiates and coordinates major projects (plant layout changes, installation of capital equipment, major repairs.
  • Collaborate with management at all levels to efficiently lead and evaluate staff performance.
  • Oversee management of all areas of processing of all pre-cut and bulk produce items and direct activities so that approved products are manufactured on schedule and within quality standards and cost objectives.
  • Acts as a liaison with various departments to manage all activities for the plant such as shipping, sales and safety activities and monitor inventory of all products.
  • Schedule and lead staff meetings to discuss updates, issues, feedback and to create solutions to issues that arise within the company's operations.
  • Directs and coordinates various programs essential to manufacturing procedures (i.e., training, safety, housekeeping, employee involvement, security.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Operations or another related field and 8 years of prior relevant experience. 12 years of relevant experience is required in absence of a degree.
  • An experienced leader with a minimum of 6 years of food processing.
  • P&L leadership and general management experience is critical for this role with a background in setting vision and delivering results. Must have experience driving businesses with high perishability and fast paced timelines.
  • Provide leadership and strategic mindset driven by a strong customer market understanding. Challenges others to think differently and possess the ability to create innovative solutions.
  • Detailed knowledge of plant and manufacturing operations.
  • Strong decision-making capabilities.
  • Knowledge of latest safety laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and expense reporting.
  • Ability to work in a team player environment and able to develop peer relationships.
  • Sound interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain effective working relationships with management, staff, and customers/vendors.
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word, and other related software programs.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • English/Spanish bilingual and bi-literate preferred.
