HUMAN RESOURCES AND BENEFITS SPECIALIST - VALLEY PRIDE, SALINAS, CA

The Human Resources and Benefits Specialist plays a leading role in the Human Resources department. This position will be responsible the overall benefits program including medical, dental vision and life insurance. Assisting in other areas of Human Resources as needed with a variety of duties that include orientations, facilitating onboarding, investigations and workers’ compensation.
This position will travel to remote locations 30% - 40% during the season with overnight travel will be required to other Valley Pride locations Arizona and California. This position will require a flexible schedule including Saturdays and holidays.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in FAMOUS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
  • Coordinate daily benefits processing. Handle enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims.
  • Oversee maintenance of employee benefits files, maintain group benefits database and update employee payroll records.
  • Assists with new-hire orientations.
  • Performs quality checks of benefits-related data.
  • Assists employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.
  • Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility.
  • Enrolls employees with carriers and process life status changes.
  • Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries.
  • Assist with processing and administering all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA.
  • Responds to employee inquiries relating to enrollments, and eligibility questions.
  • Responsible for open enrollment process.
  • Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or Business Administration preferred, equivalent field experience accepted.
  • At least 2 to 5 years of demonstrated progressive experience in Human Resources, or Benefits.
  • Bi-lingual/biliterate in English/Spanish and prior experience working with a bilingual, bi-cultural workforce is essential.
  • Must have excellent communications skills: both verbal and written.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and be proactive and a resourceful problem solver and team player.
  • Must be able to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines with minimal oversight.
  • Travel to remote company locations, including the following valleys: Salinas, Coachella, Yuma, and Huron on a periodic basis and as required.
  • Effective planning and priority setting. Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, workers' compensation, Medicare, OBRA, and Social Security and DOL requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and able to quickly grasp and use other computer software programs as required.
  • Valid class C California driver’s license.
