RANCH MANAGER - OCEAN MIST FARMS, CASTROVILLE, CA

The Ranch Manager is responsible for managing the daily farming operations.

• Responsible for the successful ground prep, planting, cultivation, irrigation, fertility, and pest control of all crops on Ocean Mist Farms ranches.
• Supervise the activities of all direct reports, irrigators, and tractor drivers so as to maintain the highest quality standards and yields of all crops grown.
• Physically inspect and maintain notes on the growing progress of all blocks at least three times per week in order to make sound and accurate farming decisions.
• Organize and schedule weekly workflow so that the farming operation runs smoothly and efficiently. Plan and schedule the next week’s cultural operations communicating this plan to employees.
• Knowledge of the correct setup and use of all farming equipment utilized in all aspects of the farming operation.
• Manage all equipment repairs, maintenance, and fabrication. This also includes keeping equipment in excellent condition while minimizing cost.
• Maintain accurate, detailed records of all crops from ground prep to harvest yields.
• Ensure proper safety protocols are followed by all employees and monthly safety meetings are implemented and attended.
• Balance yield, quality, and cost per carton of all crops at the most competitive, optimum level possible.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Production or other related field is required. PCA license is desirable.
• A minimum of five (5) years of farming experience in production agriculture is desirable.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.
• Valid California driver license required.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors, customers, and peers.
• Must be a self-starter, work independently, and upon evaluation of all the pertinent facts be able to solve complex problems.
• A strong work ethic, common sense, honesty, and integrity are required.
• Ability to work long hours Monday through Saturday and Sundays as needed.
• Farming is a physical occupation with the majority of time spent in an outside field environment often standing, walking, stooping, reaching, turning, etc. while being exposed to the elements of the weather.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds without undue physical exertion.
