The Staff Accountant is responsible for general ledger accountability, financial reports, and profit/loss analysis, as well as other projects as assigned. The Staff Accountant ensures all tasks are performed accurately and according to GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles).


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain general ledger;
  • Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements by analyzing and summarizing account information;
  • Maintain fixed asset processing and reporting schedules, which includes all subsidiary ledgers;
  • Prepare the annual operating budget (develop and analyze);
  • Prepare year end crop profit/loss accountability reports;
  • Assist with bank statement reconciling for both accounts payable and payroll;
  • Prepare monthly account balancing and reconciling;
  • Assist with year end closing and financial audits;
  • Assist with staff supervision;
  • Prepare current year and prior year fluctuations;
  • Act as backup to accounting department as necessary;
  • Other duties projects as assigned.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • Accounting degree plus 2 years finance experience;
  • MBA or CPA certification a plus;
  • Experience in agriculture industry desirable;
  • Working knowledge of Famous, Excel and Word preferred;
  • Ability to learn/carry out new duties with minimal supervision;
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees,
    supervisors, vendors and peers;
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is desired;
  • Ability to manage project from its initiation to completion with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to communicate verbally and comprehend verbal instructions;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Strong attention to detail.
