ASSISTANT SUPERVISOR, TRUCK SHOP - OCEAN MIST FARMS, CASTROVILLE, CA

The Assistant Supervisor, Truck Shop will have Technician I’s, Mechanic I’s, II’s and helpers assigned to work with them and under their supervision. They will assign tasks and ensure that the work is done satisfactorily. The truck shop assistant supervisor will keep the shop manager informed of all activities in the shop and of any problems, whether technical or with shop or field personnel. The truck shop assistant supervisor will support the management team during their absence by stepping in and assisting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions on field equipment, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems
  • Cleans, services, diagnoses, adjusts, orders parts and repairs farm machinery such as, but not limited to wheel tractors, harvesters, crawler tractors, trucks, buses, tillage equipment, pumps, tillage equipment and trailers
  • Configure, layout and assemble complex hydraulic, electrical systems on new equipment
  • Produce quality work while maintaining cost controls
  • Repair equipment quickly and accurately
  • Establish and maintain an organized, clean work area
  • Disassemble and assemble farm equipment without assistance
  • Inspect parts and determine when parts are to be replaced or reused
  • Fill out timecards, parts requests, and service reports
  • Take calls from field personnel and create work orders as needed
  • Create work orders for the Truck Shop and help customers
  • Work with the parts department to facilitate parts flow to the shop
  • Work safely around and with equipment, personnel
  • Maintain communication with manager, fellow employees and field personnel
  • Call supervisors to bring in equipment to the shop to get inspected

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • Have a minimum of 8 years of experience working as a mechanic or experience and equivalent training
  • Have proven experience in setting up and diagnosing malfunctions in hydraulic systems, electrical systems, drive systems and diesel and gas engines
  • Ability to use specialty tools and scanners to diagnose, adjust and repair equipment
  • Have the willingness and ability to follow safety guidelines and work safely around and with other personnel
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Ability to listen and follow directions accurately
  • Ability to communicate and work with supervisor, warehouse personnel, fellow workers, office, and field personnel
  • Able to read and understand parts and service manuals
  • Have the willingness to travel to remote locations to work
  • Able to legibly fill out timecards, parts requests, and comments on work orders quickly and accurately
  • Possess and maintain appropriate driver’s license and endorsements
  • Have the willingness and ability to maintain a good attendance record
  • Have common and specialty tools to diagnose and repair equipment
