LOADER - CASTROVILLE, CA

The Loader position is responsible for placing finished goods into the warehouse, proper rotation of inventory, and accurately and efficiently picking customer orders and loading finished goods onto truck.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Load trucks in a timely manner; check load count and commodity against order sheet and aging report; discuss load configuration with driver
  • Ensure that boxes and pallets are in good condition, stacked correctly and stable, apply corner boards and shrink-wrap when required
  • Remove pallet stickers for shipping office personnel when required; correctly mark left over pallets (pallet tag info) when building partial pallets
  • Help maintain cold room rotation; keep facility clean and organized
  • Fill out daily equipment check list; receive product from transfer loads
  • Read and follow special instructions on the pick ticket
  • Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage. Report quality variance
  • Must follow product rotation first in first out (FIFO) unless otherwise instructed
  • Inspect all trailers before loading for any issues (i.e., Damage torn chute damage walls foul smell dirty trailer unstable floor)
  • Verify order and truck name with line truck driver before loading
  • Learn and understand the various loading configuration’s, and pattern of product/commodities
  • Load transport vehicles, making sure loads are evenly and securely placed
  • Must understand weight distribution on long haul trailers so truck is not over gross
  • Document on loading manifests the exact quantities of all commodities loaded into trailer as well as number of pallets and plastic bag used
  • Follow safe operating procedures
  • Must be able to work flexible hours in a cold environment
  • Practice the honor system
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • Two to five years minimum experience in agriculture cooling, receiving and shipping is required; basic math and reading skills
  • Ability to certify in forklift operation
  • Able to use radio frequency handheld devices
  • Ability to communicate verbally and comprehend verbal instructions; requires sufficient sight and hearing to perform all job functions
  • Good interpersonal skills and customer service mentality with the ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, peers, supervisors, vendors and customers
  • Load and unload produce
  • Learn use of scan guns and know how to read pallet tags
  • Verify quantity of produce shipped out matches what the pick ticket has
  • Complete forklift pre-inspection form
  • Maintain positive working relationship with others
  • Must be willing to work different shifts and occasional holidays and Sundays as needed
