The Truck Mechanic II is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a diverse range of farm equipment including trucks and trailers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair malfunctions on diesel and gas engines
- Establish and maintain an organized clean work area
- Diagnose systems for cause of failure or potential failure. Disassembles components and inspect parts. Reassembles components and tests machine operation. Clean, service and lubricate machinery; adjusts systems and controls without assistance
- Inspect parts and determine when parts are to be replaced or reused
- Review all repair work orders for accuracy and completeness concerning parts, materials, and labor for approval of equipment to return to service
- Regularly communicate with peers and supervisors regarding the status of projects and work activities
- Service large equipment such as, trucks of various sizes, pickups, buses, tillage equipment, pumps, trailers, and other equipment as needed
- Perform extensive configuration of hydraulic and electrical systems where new systems or modifications to existing systems are required
- Operate a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools in the Shop associated with repairing, maintaining, and testing equipment as needed
- Confer with Truck shop Supervisor to coordinate priority projects; equipment repair, and extent of repairs to be performed. Complete parts request forms. Order parts through various sources such as parts books, CDs, internet websites and parts department
- Complete and track work order number by writing a concise description of machine repairs and task codes and project hours. Note incomplete repairs or any other relevant observations
- Operate one or more service trucks to be delivered to repair sites
- Produce quality work while maintaining cost controls. Track hours spent on each work order to improve efficiency
- During off season months, perform major mechanical work taking equipment apart, repairing and replacing part
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements and Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years’ maintenance experience working as a mechanic or experience and equivalent training
- Prior Agriculture experience is preferred
- Prior experience with diagnostic software
- Able to work on different turn shifts, Monday to Saturday and occasionally Sundays
- Bilingual/biliterate in English and Spanish is preferred. Ability to speak, read and write in Spanish and English without assistance is preferred
- Possess and maintain a Valid California Driver’s License and endorsements
- Excellent interpersonal skills and strong communication skills
- Have the willingness and ability to follow safety guidelines and work safely around and with equipment and other personnel
- Able to work well under pressure and meet various deadlines
- Must be extremely well organized and able to multitask
