SR. GENERAL ACCOUNTANT - CASTROVILLE, CA

The Sr. General Accountant will be responsible for general accounting. (Month end close, reconciliations, and some reviews). This position will also be responsible for the management of the fixed assets process i.e. capex, depreciation, and roll forwards for book and tax schedules, and responsible for the daily cash reconciliation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Close and Consolidations
  • Ensure all reconciliations for all entities are reconciled and discrepancies foot to zero
  • Ensure all intercompany accounts are eliminated through consolidation
  • Support the timely month-end and year-end closing of the books of record, including intercompany elimination, and internal reporting
  • Improve the consolidation process as you determine opportunities to do so
  • Position is responsible for several complex reconciliations
  • Tie ending balances per recons to the Trial Balance
Fixed Assets and Leases (ASC 842)
  • Perform Fixed Asset accounting for all Ocean Mist Farms entities to include:
    • Monthly depreciation and booking
    • Monthly CIP and Capitalization process and ownership
    • Disposal process ownership
    • Effectively execute the Fixed Asset Policy
  • Maintain and own the ASC 842 Process for leases and related reporting across all entities
  • Ad Hoc requests as appropriate to include miscellaneous tax fillings/property taxes/variable lease expenses and income (ASC 842)
  • Perform physical inventory counts and reconcile to the general ledger, as required for fixed assets
Cash and Treasury/Risk Management Support and Liaison
  • Daily Cash Reconciliations supporting the Director of Treasury/Corporate Controller and / or Director of Acct
  • Establish yourself as second chair for insurance renewals and reporting
  • Serve as a backup for Crop investment accounting as needed
Internal and external support
  • Liaison with the external auditors
  • Provide support regarding board presentations as requested

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent, CPA highly desirable
  • Minimum 3-8 years of experience in Accounting, Agricultural industry preferred
  • Proficient in Famous, Trullion (ASC 842), Word, Excel, and other computer software programs
  • Strong collaborator with ability to interact with all levels of staff in the organization
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask in a high volume, multi-deadline environment
  • Ability to manage a project from its initiation to completion with minimal supervision
  • Must exercise a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion and decision-making
